St. Michael’s is a small Catholic graveyard located adjacent to Findlay’s Maple Grove Cemetery. It is the parish cemetery of Saint Michael the Archangel Church, which has two locations in Findlay. The parish’s mother church is located at 617 W. Main Cross Street, less than half a mile from the cemetery.

Although it was at one time customary for parishes to establish burial grounds adjacent to the church itself, as communities grew and expanded, it became necessary to purchase larger tracts of land outside of town. With the eventual establishment of more spacious Catholic cemeteries open to members of all congregations, even these small parish cemeteries largely fell into disuse.

Situated at the end of a residential street, the entrance to Saint Michael’s is marked with two angel sculptures, one on the right and one on the left. Each stands at the edge of a short white wall bearing the cemetery’s name.

The graveyard appears to be nearing capacity for ground burials but has installed a 124-niche columbarium. Plans are in place to install more if need dictates.

The cemetery is unremarkable overall. Its defining memorial feature is located in a beautifully landscaped plot of land just inside the front entrance. There, perched atop a sandstone pedestal in the midst of a grove of evergreens, stands the figure of an angel. Eyes turned heavenward, she holds a cross entwined with blossoms in her hands. A bronze plaque on the pedestal reads:
In Memory of
Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Laube
and Family
1932

Mr. Laube was a lifetime member of Saint Michael the Archangel Church. He, his wife and other family members are interred in Section D of the cemetery.

Note: There is no street address for Saint Michael’s. If you are planning to visit, please use the private residential address of 122 Durrell Street in Findlay. This is the last home on Durrell and it stands just outside the front entrance of Saint Michael’s.
